Frequently asked questions

What prospective clients usually ask before the first call, answered by Right Choice Tax & Accounting in Gilbert, AZ.

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes, currently accepting new clients (as of October 19, 2026).

What does it cost?

Pricing depends on the type of work. Monthly bookkeeping packages run $175 to $750 per month, and every package, including catch-up and cleanup, advisory and personal packages, is listed with its price on the services and pricing page. Every engagement starts with a free consultation, so you know your exact rate before anything is billed. See pricing.

How does Right Choice handle accounting?

Each client is assigned one local bookkeeper, with manager review, and CFO-level advisory. Every return is reviewed by an Enrolled Agent before it is filed.

Do you offer payroll services?

Yes. Payroll processing is included in the Complete ($500 per month) and Executive ($750 per month) bookkeeping packages, and a one-time $250 payroll setup add-on gets payroll running alongside a new or existing bookkeeping engagement. See payroll services.

How much does tax preparation cost in Gilbert, AZ?

Personal tax returns start at $350 and business returns start at $500. An Enrolled Agent reviews every return before it is filed, and you will know your exact fee before any work is billed. See individual tax preparation and business tax preparation for details.

What documents do I need for my personal tax return?

Bring last year's return, your income forms (W-2s, 1099s), forms for the deductions and credits you plan to claim, records of estimated tax payments, and photo ID and Social Security numbers (or ITINs) for everyone on the return. If you are missing something, send what you have and we will tell you what else is needed. Documents go through the secure client portal, not email attachments. The full checklist is on the individual tax preparation page.

What documents do I need for a business tax return?

Bring your profit and loss statement and balance sheet (or access to your accounting file), bank and credit card statements for every business account, last year's returns and entity documents such as your EIN letter, payroll reports and 1099s, records of large purchases, and estimated tax payments. Clean, current books make the process faster. The full checklist is on the business tax preparation page.

What should I do if I received an IRS notice?

Read it carefully, note any response deadline printed on it, keep the original, and gather the related records. Then contact us for a free consultation before you reply. Kara Larkin, EA, is authorized to represent you before the IRS in any state, and IRS audit advisory and representation is billed at $175 per hour.

What is an Enrolled Agent?

An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a tax professional federally authorized by the IRS to represent taxpayers. EAs pass a three-part IRS exam covering individual returns, business returns, and representation. Unlike a CPA license, the EA credential is valid in every state, and its focus is tax. It carries unlimited representation rights before the IRS, meaning an EA can represent you directly in an audit, appeal, or collections matter.

What's the difference between an Enrolled Agent and a CPA?

A CPA is licensed at the state level for broad accounting work, including audits. An Enrolled Agent is federally authorized by the IRS, focuses only on tax, is valid in every state, and has unlimited representation rights before the IRS. CPAs can perform audits and reviews of financial statements, which Enrolled Agents cannot. Read the full comparison in Enrolled Agent vs. CPA: Which Do You Need?.

Do you work with clients outside Arizona?

Yes. Most bookkeeping and CFO engagements run entirely remote through secure document sharing and cloud accounting software. In-person meetings are available by appointment at designated meeting locations in Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix, and at your home or place of business by arrangement. Otherwise we meet by phone and video.

What's the difference between an Enrolled Agent and a bookkeeper?

A bookkeeper keeps your day-to-day records accurate. An Enrolled Agent (EA) is authorized by the IRS to prepare returns and represent you directly before the IRS, in any state. Right Choice is led by an EA, so tax strategy and representation aren't outsourced to someone else.

How does working together actually start?

A free introductory call first. We look at where your books and filings stand today. From there we scope the engagement (one-time cleanup, ongoing bookkeeping, tax prep, or fractional executive-level work like a controller or CFO) and send a proposal before anything's billed.

Do you work with S-corps, C-corps and LLCs, or just sole proprietors?

All of the above, plus partnerships. Entity structure changes the tax strategy, not whether we can help. SALT services and entity-specific filings are part of the standard offering.

How is pricing structured?

Pricing depends on the type of work. Monthly bookkeeping runs on five tiered packages (Foundation through Executive, $175–$750/month) based on your account and transaction volume. You can see exact tiers and what's included on our Services page. Catch-up and cleanup work is priced per month of cleanup needed, not a flat guess. Business advisory (fractional controller and CFO) is billed monthly starting at set rates, and one-time work (tax prep, new business setup, IRS representation) is either a flat fee or hourly, clearly listed upfront. Every engagement starts with a free consultation, so you'll always know your exact rate before anything is billed.

We're behind on bookkeeping or past filings. Can you still help?

That's exactly what Business Financial Cleanup & Catch-Up is for: getting your records current before moving to ongoing bookkeeping or filing.
